Making your own Advocaat is simple and delicious.
Advocaat is a traditional Dutch alcoholic beverage made from eggs, sugar, and brandy. It is more akin to a rich custard than a beverage. Once you make it and taste its boozy, silky flavor, you will want to make it a holiday tradition.

Ingredients:
- 2 large egg yolks
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup cognac
- Smidgen of salt
- Whipping cream (optional)
- Freshly grated nutmeg (optional)
Method:
- In a heatproof bowl, whisk the egg yolks, sugar, vanilla and salt until thick.
- Slowly whisk in the cognac or brandy until well blended.
- Transfer the bowl to a double boiler. Whisk over gentle steady heat until it’s thick enough to coat the back of a spoon.
- Remove from heat, let cool and transfer to a clean airtight bottle. The advocaat will last for up to a week in the refrigerator.
Bartender Baylee tip: Add a few spoons of advocaat to a glass. Add a splash of cognac to the advocaat mixture and stir to combine. Whip cream with a spoon of sugar and some vanilla. Top the advocaat mixture with your whipped cream. Garnish with freshly ground nutmeg. Enjoy your delicious glass of Bombardino. Cheers!
